Holding space for others takes practice. Mindfulness is a necessary prerequisite — a state of being in which we are present, connected, and in full awareness of what is going on both inside ourselves and all around. Mindfulness practices are the tools that allow us to orient ourselves toward this state of present-moment awareness. With regular practice, it becomes easier to regulate our own emotions and levels of activation in the presence of others who are activated. When we work to be mindful of ourselves, this skill then translates into our relationships and interventions.

Description de l'évenement
Co-regulation is a key component in many evidence-based approaches such as Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and relationship- and attachment-based models. Essentially, co-regulation is a process of regulating another person’s emotional state and de-escalating a crisis. By mirroring, role-modelling, and maintaining a calm and collected state of being, it becomes possible to hold space for others in a way that supports their emotional regulation. Increasingly, research has shown that a critical quality of the caregiver or helping professional is their ability to create the conditions for co-regulation to occur.Holding space for others takes practice.
