In this workshop, you will learn how to implement many practical, new treatment tools you can use in your clinical work right away, including the Urges to Use Scale, the Brief Mood Survey, the Five Secrets of Effective Communication, numerous Paradoxical Agenda Setting Techniques, the Decision-Making Form, the Habit / Addiction Log, the Devil’s Advocate Technique, the Experimental Technique, the Externalization of Voices, the Acceptance Paradox, and more. One highlight of the workshop will be an optional live demonstration on Healing Yourself.
The goal of this workshop will not be to challenge or replace the excellent work you may already be doing with clients with habits and addictions, but rather to provide you with richer and more powerful tools to enhance your skills as well as your satisfaction with your work. Individuals working in 12-step programs will be pleased with the substantial overlap with the AA philosophy and are warmly invited to attend and participate.
Although the focus will be on the treatment of teens and adults with addictions, audience members will be invited to work on their own habits and addictions, including the psychological addictions such as overeating and compulsive shopping as well as the sexual, romantic, and internet addictions as a way of bringing the treatment techniques to life
